We have had the “technology” of the Information Age for more than fifty
years. But most organizations have not yet realized the true principles
of the Information Age, much less implemented them. However, the
pioneers are transforming the paradigms by which future enterprises will
be managed and by which information and systems will be engineered.
In this presentation, Mr. English describes how the paradigm of the
Information Age is fundamentally different from that of the Industrial
Age. For businesses to survive in the emerging, “realized” Information
Age, they must radically transform their business management systems and
their approach to developing information systems.
1.
Business management from vertical, functional management to
horizontal, value-chain management, and
2.
Information systems development from fragmented “islands of
automation” development into Value-Centric Information and Systems
Engineering and Information and Knowledge Management.”
These principles are required to transform the enterprise from an
Industrial-Age organization to an Information-Age enterprise to maximize
today's information technology and its information resources for
competitive advantage and business effectiveness.
