PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
Summer is here and with it, so many of our members are taking vacations. While this does allow for more personal meeting settings, we hope that you had a chance to take a look at the updated meeting calendar and the topics are meeting your interests. If not, as always, we are an email away.
In August, we are going back to our roots in continuing designing the DAMA membership database through collaborative modeling. This will be a good opportunity to brush up on pros and cons of different abstraction techniques when our next step is a physical implementation of the database. So bring your ideas and join us at this meeting.
Then in September, we are starting a series of speakers that should captivate your attention and build it up until we get to our Annual DAMA Day. We have a strong line up of topics, including Lowell Fryman, one of the best known resources in the DAMA world on metadata. DAMA Day planning is also full steam ahead. We are working towards a dual track event, and with more speakers more opportunities for networking. In the next newsletter, I hope to share with you much more exciting news.
Until then, have a great summer. Also, please do not forget that the meetings are now the second Wednesday of each month.
Sincerely,
Mehmet Orun

Using Business Intelligence to
form KPI’s
Overview: Businesses measure success through financial outcomes
and process efficiencies. This session would focus on the
process of creating high value KPIs and how to derive those KPIs
from a BI solution. We will discuss KPIs in terms of peer and
periodicity measurement; absolute and relative measurement and
through dimensional comparison. Also, we will highlight example
KPIs in an OLAP drillable environment from a business user
perspective. Additional time is spent reviewing the business
data model that supports KPIs.
Participants will learn:
How to distinguish a KPI from other numbers
How to align KPIs with your business goals and processes
How to visually document your KPIs for monitoring
How to proceed from a KPI data element inventory to a calculated
KPI with thresholds
