Presentation Description:
The art of modeling has essentially
remain unchanged * over the past quarter of a century. Yet the general
practice of has been in decline, qualitatively. And the trend of that
decline has been steadily worsening, despite numerous intervening
technological advances. The author has identified 10 factors and hopes
to inspire you to consider making one or two of them your personal focus
for the upcoming year. Given the recent crash of the stock market,
perhaps this will make you eminently more employable?
* The two notable exceptions, which are over a decade old, are data
warehousing's slowly changing dimensions and hierarchies/graphs
Speaker: Steve Smith last spoke at DAMA over 20 years ago about
CASE, when CASE was the cutting edge technology. After graduating from
Stanford with a BA and MS, he worked at Intel for 15 years. For the past
15 years, he has consulted throughout Silicon Valley and has integrated
the best of breed practices that high tech has to offer. His past
clients include Cisco, HP, Amazon, eBay, Palm, Electronic Arts, TIBCO,
BEA, and a handful of startups.
